The Social and Leprosy Rehabilitation Centre
JEEVODAYA

is a medical and educational institution, which looks after people suffering from leprosy as well as members of their families. The Centre, which is located in central India in the state of Chhattisgarh, was established in 1969 by a Polish missionary and medical doctor, father Adam Wisniewski SAC. Since 1989, the Centre has been administered by a lay missionary Dr Helena Pyz from Warsaw.

JEEVODAYA (in Sanskrit ‘the dawn of life’) maintains a clinic for lepers and the poor from the vicinity provides medical assistance in two clinics a few hundred kilometers away and organizes medical help within lepers’ colonies. In 2008, a centre providing help to patients suffering from HIV/AIDS was established and the Centre participates in a programme of eliminating tuberculosis.

In the Centre, there is a school for children from the 1st to the 12th class. At present, 235 children coming from families suffering from leprosy attend this school and stay in the boarding houses. Since 2008, a group of 19 children from the neighboring villages were admitted to the school. Children from leper families are provided with full board in the Centre. Jeevodaya gives financial support to 40 graduates who are continuing their studies in vocational courses and universities.
The employees of the Centre are in majority people cured from leprosy, and besides them and their families, in Jeevodaya there is a group of orphans and children who need special care. Indian Pallotines provide the Centre with the ministry.

The Centre is a charity institution. It relies on donations from Poland and other European countries and countries all over the world. The Jeevodaya Mission Secretariat in Warsaw, belonging to the Primate Wyszyński Institute, is an institution established for the moral and financial support of the Centre.
