My Inspiration for adoption by heart
We got to know each other through correspondence. I found a book she translated from German and then sent to Jeevodaya. It was the autobiography of Ruth Pfau, who had been working for many years in Pakistani leper centres. Hopefully, there was her address on the envelope...

We met for the first time during my next holidays in Poland. Two years before she initiated the creation of the Association for Friends of Lepers, seated in Cracow, together with the Jesuit Father Czesław Drążek. In a casual conversation about working conditions, she asked me how she could assist me. I enumerated several possible forms of aid available at those times. We were considering the possibility of providing individual help for orphans living in Jeevodaya. Then, we extended this to the idea of helping the Centre through Adoption by Heart.

She was personally taking care spiritually and financially of Joseph who was then four years old and had no one in this world. For a long time he had known that he had a Mum and a brother, Marcin, in Poland. She was sending him short cards at different occasions. Whenever there was a possibility, she was sending a small gift to India. She had been fighting against cancer for many years already. Reappearing recurrences were for us, in Jeevodaya, and for me and Joseph especially, a mobilization for warm prayer for her. We met in 2000 for the last time. She then organized a meeting in KUL (Catholic Unoversity of Lublin) and invited us together with father Abraham to her house.

On Good Friday 2007 Joseph became orphan for the second time.
Just after the Easter octave, a mass will be celebrated for the eternal joy of Elżbieta Krukowska. I thought this would be a thanksgiving mass for her life, for all she had done – also for us. And for me personally...
