| First death's anniversary |
I decided to take for this celebration several people – those who would not have such occasion at all as well as my children who were on holiday,
but who did not go anywhere.
The stay,
even short at the unknown ,big water',
was a unique attraction.
It was also important for my co-workers to encounter another type of work directed at people affected by leprosy.
I persuaded sister Adela from Bangalore,
where she is working with blind people,
as in that time she was going to visit us,
as well as sister Stefania from Ramgarh,
who is organising help for leper people; both of them knew father Marian.
We set out on our twenty-hour-lasting journey to Puri on Friday the 27th of April.
It was comfortable,
although we received a couchette from the waiting list,
which means that we were located in different carriages.
Finally,
we got there on a rented jeep,
which also took my 'children' on a trip to Konark on Monday.
It did not come on time,
however,
on Tuesday in order to take as to the station.
Hopefully the adventure,
although we were late about 15 minutes for the return train,
had a happy ending – a very nice warden stopped the train for me on the request of my children,
who reached the train earlier.
On Saturday,
we were expecting out friends for Poland.
14 people arrived,
among them father Marian's brother,
Wacław,
who is one year younger than he.
The brothers were very much alike.
They were brought up together until graduating school in Poland.
6 representants of Polish Parliament came,
which was very important for the local people.
Any signs of interest,
kindliness,
friendship help our lepers feel that father Marian's mission lasts.
There were also 2 Verbists in the group and a Maitri representant from Warsaw.
In the evening,
the Mass concelebrated in the small chapel of father Marian's ashram was very touching – for those who were here for the first time,
it was like a meeting with Him.
On the next day,
on Sunday the 29th of April,
a ceremonial service in Oriya was held in the parish church,
in father Marian's first work when he undertook his work as a parish priest in Puri.
There were a dozen or so priests with the Archbishop of Bhubaneshwar,
Raphael.
At 5pm,
there was a rich programme of the commemoration of the death anniversary linked with the 25th anniversary of the Beatrix school on the scool grounds.
The integrated school for children of the lepers’ colony and others from the vicinity exists thanks to sponsors from Belgium.
The prayer of the representants of different religions,
interlarded with children's performances,
recollections,
speeches – all this was a great honoring of a Man,
who did much more by his attitude of help to everyone than international organizations for the interdenominational dialogue.
On Monday,
a year after father Marian's death,
the Mass was preceded by reflections on his life in the room where he was living.
It is there also that we started the liturgy of readings.
The essential part was celebrated in the chapel,
however,
on the other side of the pond,
where we got in procession,
singing.
Before noon,
children from Beatrix school were praying in the same spot.
They were singing and dancing – all this was beautifully prepared with the help of teachers.
After a short break,
we went to the colony,
so as to commemorate the Father's memory.
This year the feast,
in whose celebrations father Marian was taking part a year before and where his earthly pilgrimage ended,
fell on the 20th of April.
That is why,
on the same feast,
10 days before already,
the inhabitants of the colony unveiled father's monument,
which they have funded and which is of a natural size,
in front of the hospital.
The moment when Mr Wacław,
after decorating father Marian's figure with garlands,
put his arms around his neck was very moving...
We were walking past the colony for a long time still.
I was answering to many questions from the Polish participants of the ceremony.
I was translating the inhabitants' statements and showing the details of father Marian's care directed at those who were under his charge.
We were talking and taking drips down memory lane from the celebration in the Polish circle.
On the next day,
after the thanksgiving Mass,
I said goodbye to everybody and with some adversities,
we took our way back home.
